Since the disappearance of Haleigh Cummings on February 10, 2009, at 3am from her Satsuma home, the three week investigation and search for 5 year-old Haleigh continues. Captain Dick Schauland of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, advised Palatka Daily News that the focus of the investigation remains on finding Haleigh, with their secondary, but important interest, being the investigation. Recent Developments in the Haleigh Cummings Case As the search continues for 5 year-old Haleigh Cummings, the family released new videos of Haleigh hoping to keep media focus on the case and prompt possible identification of the missing child. To date, all reported sightings of Haleigh Cummings have proven to be cases of mistaken identity, but Putnam County Police are taking all tips and possible sightings seriously. Little Brother Claims to Have Seen Kidnapper The story has changed by bits and pieces as the investigation has unraveled. As best can be deduced Haleigh was in bed with her little brother when she disappeared. Haleigh's little brother has said that he saw a man dressed completely in black take Haleigh from her bed the night of her disappearance. So far, investigators still have no idea of the identity of the man in black. Cadaver Dogs Hit on Dumpster near Haleigh's Home Thursday, FOX News reports that authorities and cadaver dogs searched the area around her home again. Seven dogs were brought in to assist in the search, Thursday, February 26, 2007. Three different cadaver dogs hit on a dumpster in a storage area behind the trailer park from which Haleigh Cummings was taken. Investigators emptied the dumpster and even checked beneath the dumpster, but found no clues or related to Haleigh Cummings disappearance. Tomorrow, investigators are expected to continue the search with more cadaver dogs. Previous searches in the areas included hound dogs, but this is apparently the first time cadaver dogs have been used. A boat has been brought to the area near the crime scene in case cadaver dogs hit on a scent in or near the water. Haleigh's Biological Mother Asked for DNA Swab Crystal Sheffield, Haleigh's biological mother was asked to give DNA to the police on Thursday, according to a report by Nancy Grace. Despite knowing the police were on the way for a DNA swab, Crystal Sheffield left for an appointment when the police were on their way to get the DNA sample. That's a little odd, but there is no indication of where her appointment was. The police reportedly told an HLN correspondent that they would meet her at her appointment to acquire the sample. Girlfriend Questioned, Again Haleigh's Cummings father's 17 year-old girlfriend, Misty Crosling, who was responsible for the child at the time of her disappearance, went to police headquarters again today. This is the fourth time she has been taken in for questioning. Headline News Network, reports that she was in interrogation for about three hours today. All family members have taken polygraphs. As far as those who have been tested know, they have all passed their polygraphs. Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her home the night of February 10, 2009. The 17 year-old girlfriend, Misty Croslin, has told authorities that she awoke in the middle of the night to find the little girl missing. The convoluted case is complicated by a split family, a live in girlfriend, numerous sex offenders in the area, bizarre circumstances the night of the disappearance, and a recent visit from a relative who is allegedly sex offender. The Putnam County police continue to diligently work the case, keeping information close to the chest. Kudos to the Putnam County Sheriff for preventing leaks which could interfere with their investigation or harm a criminal case. Meanwhile, the reward for finding Haleigh or leading authorities to Haleigh or the perpetrator is now $25,500, according to Palatka Daily News.
