Review of fox 5 news school closings::What is a good local news website i have tried most of ...








Dane               County               Circuit               Court               Judge               Maryann               Sumi               issued               a               temporary               restraining               order               Friday               which               stopped               the               law               limiting               the               collective               bargaining               rights               for               public               employees               in               Wisconsin               from               going               into               effect.

Here               is               a               brief               timeline               recapping               the               events               of               the               last               45               days               leading               to               the               judge's               decision.

Feb.

14:               Public               Employees               Flood               Wisconsin               State               Capitol
               Thousands               of               public               employees               enter               Madison               to               protest               the               introduction               of               Assembly               Bill               11               to               the               Wisconsin               State               Senate.

Gov.

Scott               Walker               and               fellow               Senate               Republicans               back               the               bill.
               Feb.

15:               Anti-Collective               Bargaining               Bill               Introduced
               Assembly               Bill               11,               known               as               the               Budget               Repair               Bill,               is               introduced               to               the               Wisconsin               State               Senate               by               the               Committee               on               Assembly               Organization               at               Gov.

Walker's               request.
               Feb.

18:               Senators               Flee               Wisconsin
               Democratic               state               senators               flee               Wisconsin,               leaving               Republican               senators               one               vote               short               of               a               quorum.

By               exiling               themselves               from               Wisconsin,               the               Democrats               prevent               the               bill               from               being               voted               on               in               the               full               state               senate.

Teachers               go               on               strike               for               the               second               straight               day,               forcing               school               closings               throughout               Milwaukee,               Madison,               and               other               communities.
               Feb.

19:               The               Crowds               Get               Larger
               Madison               Police               estimate               that               nearly               70,000               people               have               gathered               to               protest               in               the               state               capitol,               the               largest               crowd               since               protesting               began.

Demonstrations               continue               to               make               national               news.
               March               9:               Wisconsin               Senate               GOP               Passes               Budget               Repair               Bill
               With               Democratic               state               senators               still               in               self-imposed               exile,               Republican               senators               approve               a               stripped               down               version               of               Assembly               Bill               11,               which               removes               all               collective               bargaining               rights               except               for               wage               negotiations               from               state               employees.

The               Republicans               pass               the               bill               by               removing               all               fiscal               matters               from               it,               allowing               the               GOP               to               vote               on               it               from               a               committee               instead               of               requiring               the               full               senate.
               March               10:               State               Assembly               Passes               the               Bill
               The               Wisconsin               State               Assembly               passes               the               bill               by               a               vote               of               53-42.

Gov.

Walker               applauds               the               passage               and               signs               it               into               law               the               following               day.
               March               18:               Judge               Sumi               Issues               a               Restraining               Order               Stalling               Publication               of               the               Bill
               Dane               County               Executive               Kathleen               Falk               brings               a               lawsuit               before               Judge               Sumi               against               Wisconsin,               its               secretary               of               state,               and               four               legislators.

Sumi               rules               for               a               temporary               restraining               order               on               the               publication               of               the               bill               pending               another               hearing               to               decide               whether               or               not               Republican               lawmakers               violated               state               open               meeting               requirements               for               voting               on               it.
               Legislators               are               required               to               give               24               hours'               notice               for               regular               committee               meetings               and               at               least               two               hours'               notice               when               more               is               not               possible               or               practical.

Falk's               lawsuit               states               that               the               Republicans               failed               to               give               proper               notice               for               the               committee               conference               meeting,               but               Republicans               argue               that               since               they               were               voting               on               a               bill               tied               to               a               special               session,               no               notice               was               required.
               If               Falk's               lawsuit               is               successful,               the               anti-collective               bargaining               law               will               not               go               into               effect,               and               Republican               lawmakers               will               be               forced               to               reconsider               the               bill.

The               Wisconsin               legislature               will               then               need               to               come               up               with               another               way               to               overcome               the               state's               budget               shortfall.

However,               if               the               lawsuit               proves               unsuccessful,               the               law               will               be               published               and               state               employees               will               lose               the               majority               of               their               bargaining               rights.
